château d'Hautpoul
The village of Hautpoul (comune of Mazamet, department of Tarn) comprises two castles: the castle below, ruined and accessible at the exit of the Mazamet bridge; and the high castle, located on the heights of the village. The first is an ancient castle, while the second, although fortified, has Renaissance features. Built on a rocky promontory at the gates of the Black Mountain, they face the Church of St.Saviour of Hautpoul. The early seigneurial tower was probably built in the 11th century by the family of Hautpoul, and successive buildings underwent the crusade of the Albigens and then the Wars of Religion.
