parc zoologique de Montpellier
The Montpellier zoological park, which takes place throughout Lunaret Park, is a French zoological park located in the Occitanie region, north of Montpellier. Located in the Hospital-Faculty district, within the Aiguelongue sub-district, Lunaret Park also includes the Lez Nature Reserve. Founded in 1964, it now has about 170 animals of 29 species on an area of 80 hectares.
Owned by the city of Montpellier, which fully finances it, it has been run by Marine Baconnais since the beginning of 2023. A permanent member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums since 1997, he has been involved in ex situ conservation by participating in European programmes for endangered species (EEP: EAZA Ex-situ Program). The free entry of most of the park helps to make it one of the ten most frequented zoological parks in France, with about 300,000 annual visitors.
It is one of the five largest zoos in France.
