Triumphal arch
porte du Peyrou
The triumphal arch of Montpellier is a monument erected in 1691 by Augustin-Charles d'Aviler, architect of the province of Languedoc, on drawings made by François II d'Orbay. This door symbolizes the power of the kingship to access the equestrian statue dedicated to the glory of King Louis XIV. It is strongly inspired by that of Saint-Martin in Paris[ref.
necessary]. The triumphal arch is part of the Peyrou Promenade, which was listed as a historical monument in 1954.
