porte Saint-Martin
The Porte Saint-Martin is a monument to Paris, located at the location of a door of the old enclosure of Charles V. It was erected in 1674 by order of Louis XIV, in honour of his victories on the Rhine and in Franche-Comté, by architect Pierre Bullet, pupil of François Blondel, architect of the nearby Saint-Denis gate. The adjacent walls have since been destroyed.
The Saint Martin Gate is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1862. Restoration work was undertaken in 1988.
