château de Gisors
The castle of Gisors is a former castle-motte, built between the end of the 11th and 12th centuries, then transformed into a castle, whose remains stand on the French commune of Gisors in the department of Eure, in the Normandy region. The castle built on a castral motte consists of a circular dungeon added to an already existing fortress. This border fortress of Norman Vexin, which was to defend the Duchy of Normandy against the pretensions of the King of France, will be ceded several times and taken over by the Dukes of Normandy.
The castle is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1862. Important restoration work has taken place there since 2021. Owned by the City of Gisors, the castle park is accessible to visitors all year round.
Guided tours of the castle are organized by the tourist office of Vexin Normand.
