château de Virieu
The castle of Virieu is an ancient castle of land and wood built around the year mill, replaced by a stone castle in the twelfth century, several times redesigned since (15th – 18th century) that stands on the French commune of Val-de-Virieu in the department of Isère in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The castle was the capital of Virieu's mandation, cited as such in 1107 during the division of the county of Sermorens. All the facades and roofs of the castle are registered under the title of historical monuments by order of 9 March 1965; the forecourt, entrance towers, the west and south beds, the support walls of the terraces and the dovecote shall be registered by order of 17 July 1990. The castle is the subject of a registration in full by decree of 27 February 2023 which replaces the two previous ones.
