Church building
église Saint-Alpin de Châlons-en-Champagne
The Saint-Alpin de Châlons-en-Champagne church is a Gothic church built from the twelfth to the sixteenth century on the former site of a chapel dedicated to Saint-André. It is dedicated to Saint Alpin, 8th bishop of Châlons.
The church of Saint-Alpin is classified as historical monuments by the list of 1862, confirmed in the Official Journal of 18 April 1914. It is located in the heart of the city between Notre Dame Basilica and the Cathedral and at the same time between the Foch Square of the Town Hall and the Place de la République.
The first church dates back to the ninth century, rebuilt in 1170 in Gothic style, there are still pillars and arcades. The nave and the collaterals were raised with the facade and date from the middle of the 12th century. The Renaissance transept is from the 15th century. Finally, the lower side is largely due to the expansion of the building in the 16th century (baths and stained glass). The two 12th century medallion stained glass windows come from another church. It has a dedication on the tomb of Saint Alpin.
