Scientific, technic and industrial culture center
The Casemate, first an association law of 1901 founded in 1979 on the initiative of representatives of local universities and research centres and local authorities, is a centre of scientific culture (CCSTI). Open to the public on 4 December 1979, it is the second scientific cultural centre created in France after the Palais de la Découverte. Since then, a network of some 40 CCSTIs has been established. Each of these science centres continues to write the history of scientific, technical and industrial culture on their territory. Since 1 January 2021, La Casemate has been a component of the Territory of Science, a public institution of industrial and commercial cultural cooperation. Its main mission remains unchanged and is to promote the appropriation of science and innovation by all audiences. It consists of a team of about 20 people from culture, science, journalism, communication, mediation and project engineering.
