About

The Casemate, first an association law of 1901 founded in 1979 on the initiative of representatives of local universities and research centres and local authorities, is a centre of scientific culture (CCSTI). Open to the public on 4 December 1979, it is the second scientific cultural centre created in France after the Palais de la Découverte. Since then, a network of some 40 CCSTIs has been established. Each of these science centres continues to write the history of scientific, technical and industrial culture on their territory. Since 1 January 2021, La Casemate has been a component of the Territory of Science, a public institution of industrial and commercial cultural cooperation. Its main mission remains unchanged and is to promote the appropriation of science and innovation by all audiences. It consists of a team of about 20 people from culture, science, journalism, communication, mediation and project engineering.
