City gate
porte Saint-Laurent
La Porte Saint-Laurent is a town gate located at the east entrance of Grenoble. It was erected in 1615 as part of the fortification of the Bastille hill by Duke François de Bonne de Lesdiguières, then governor of the royal province of Dauphiné. Place Saint-Laurent corresponds to the traffic space surrounding this gate and linking it (on both sides) to the Xavier-Jouvin wharf.
