château d'Aiguebelette-le-Lac
The Château d'Aiguebelette-le-Lac is a former castle from the beginning of the 14th century, center of the seigneury of Aiguebelette, erected in Barony in 1624, whose remains stand on the commune of Aiguebelette-le-Lac in the department of Savoy, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Situation: The remains of the Château d'Aiguebelette-le-Lac are located in the French department of Savoie on the commune of Aiguebelette-le-Lac, in the village, near the lake. His esplanade served as a terrace at the old Bellevue chalet-hotel.
History: It is estimated that a castle existed in the 12th century but that it suffered a first destruction by Guigues VIII of Vienna in the early 14th century. The castle of Aiguebelette-le-Lac was rebuilt around 1305, when Geoffroy de Clermont, lord of Clermont in Vienna, received him in Oblate fief from Count Amédée V de Savoie. The family of Clermont retained it until 1454, when Gabriel de Clermont, having taken sides for France, was dispossessed and the future Louis XI destroyed it again.
