About

Thorens Castle is located on the town of Thorens-Glières in Haute-Savoie, about 20 kilometers northeast of Annecy, at the exit of the village, by the road going up to the plateau des Glières. It is often confused with the Château de Sales, its former neighbour of a few hundred meters: Sales was destroyed by order of the king of France, Louis XIII, in 1630. Thorens Castle is also improperly called "Torens-Glières Castle".

In reality, Thorens-Glières is now the name of the village since the Liberation; Since April 19, 1947, precisely. The castle, on the other hand, has always and simply been called "Torens Castle". However, some ancient documents (notably 17th century) call it "Château de Compey", the name of its first owners: the powerful lords of Compey.
