About

Saint-Jean-Baptiste d'Aire Cathedral is a Catholic religious building located in the commune of Aire-sur-l'Adour, in the French department of Landes. Built from the end of the 11th century, it is classified by order of 9 August 1906. The cathedral, dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, is located in the lower town, where the bishops of this diocese created in the sixth century resided, and which operated until 1802.

The diocese was attached to that of Bayonne from 1802 to 1823 and today, along with Dax, formed the diocese of Aire and Dax. The former Episcopal Palace is nowadays the city hall of Aire-sur-l'Adour.
