Ouvrage Gondran

The Gondran E is a fortification on the Maginot line, located on the boundary between the communes of Montgenèvre and Cervières, in the Hautes-Alpes department. It is an infantry work built during the 1930s in addition to the other older fortifications built on the Gondran, dating from the Séré de Rivières system (built in 1886-1893): the infantry works of Gondran A, Gondran B, Gondran C and Gondran D, forming the "Gondran line". The role of these works is to ensure continuity between the work of Janus and that of Les Aittes. The Gondran E's work was difficult to finance: it was necessary to use military manpower, equipment and recovery weapons.
