About

Sainte-Jeanne-d'Arc Church is a 1930s Catholic church located in the Port du Rhin district of Strasbourg. Place de l'Hippodrome next to the Square des Fusillés of 15 July 1943 and right in front of the chapel of the Meeting. The church of the Bateliers of Strasbourg, so named because of the development of the city and its port.

The statue of Saint Nicolas, patron of the boatmen, adorns the choir. It is also called Armenseelenkirchlein ("small church of souls of Purgatory"). It houses an altar dedicated to Our Lady of Purgatory, illustrating the Virgin Mary releasing souls from flames and chains.

The Saint John of Arc Church of the Port of the Rhine was founded in the 1930s. It is dedicated to Saint Jeanne d'Arc, liberator of France, no doubt because of the threats caused by the rise of Nazism overseas. Father François-Xavier Scherer, vicar at Saint-Urbain, appointed by Bishop Ruch laid the first stone on 11 June 1933; and the church is solemnly blessed on November 26, 1933.
