chapelle Notre-Dame de Mazières
The chapel of Mazières is a chapel located in the commune of Hauteville-Lompnes in the department of Ain, France. Located in the forest of Mazières, not far from the road coming from Hauteville-Lompnes and to the Col de la Rochette, it is relatively isolated. The Trou de la Marmite waterfall is nearby. The chapel is particularly famous for the two pilgrimages to which it is subjected annually: August 15 and September 8.
History: Several hypotheses explain its creation in the 12th century. In 1605, the account of Saint Francis de Sales mentions it. In 1645 René de Lucinge, among other lords of the Allymes, allocated him a sum of money for reparation. In 1867, the municipal councils of the communes of Lompnes, Hauteville and Cormaranche, all geographically concerned by the chapel, decided to place it undivided. In the 2010s, an association "Les Amis de Mazières" actively contributed to the restoration of the place.
