Located in the historic district of Old Lille, the Hospice Comtesse, a former medieval hospital founded in 1237 by Countess Jeanne of Flanders (c. 1200-1244), is an emblematic heritage of the city of Lille. It has been home to the museum of art and history of the city since 1962. The breadth of its volumes and its typical health-care architecture embody more than 750 years of hospitality and generosity. Rich in nearly 70,000 works, its diverse collections reflect the social and cultural history of the capital of Flanders. Venue of memory, appreciated by the locals and tourists - 100,000 to 160,000 visitors per year, the Hospice Comtesse Museum offers numerous temporary exhibitions, including contemporary art, and varied programming.
