About

The castle of Saché is a residence of the French Renaissance put to the taste of the nineteenth century by its then owner, Jean de Margonne, who often received Honoré de Balzac there. It is located in the municipality of Saché, southwest of Tours. From 1825 to 1848, Balzac made about ten stays there and found silence and austerity, which, far from the turbulence of Parisian life and financial worries, allowed him to work from twelve to sixteen hours a day.

The castle houses a museum dedicated to the writer since 1951. The castle traditionally takes place among the Loire castles.
