The stadium of the Liberation (officially called the Léo Lagrange municipal stadium since 1952) is a football stadium located in Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais). This enclosure is used by the Union Sportive Boulogne Côte d'Opale. The track around the field and athletic equipment are used by the Boulogne Athletic Club.
Boulogne-sur-Mer was hard hit by the bombings of the Second World War and Boulogne's players were forced to play for a while on a vast stretch of grass on a steep slope before returning in 1947 to the Henri-Fondeilles stadium at the Moulin-Wiber at the northern end of the city beach, near the tip of the Crèche and used before the war. The work of the municipal stadium Léo Lagrange, which will become the stage of the Liberation, began in October 1949. The inauguration of the new building was held on 1 June 1952, but work was completed on 15 August 1956.
The plans of the stadium are signed by architect Albert Bonne. Until 2006, the stadium had two side stands, one covered with numbered seats. The outdated facilities and a filling rate close to 100% throughout the 2006 season...
