basilique Notre-Dame-de-l'Immaculée-Conception de Boulogne-sur-Mer
The Notre-Dame-de-l'Immaculée-Conception de Boulogne-sur-Mer Basilica is located in the walls of the old town of Boulogne-sur-Mer. It was classified as historical monuments in 1982. The city was the seat of a former bishopric, whose ancestor of this church was the cathedral, head of the diocese of Boulogne-sur-Mer having existed between 1566 and 1801 (year during which it was dissolved to be fully integrated into the diocese of Arras).
The diocese of Boulogne corresponded to a territory extending to Etaples, Montreuil, Hesdin, Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise and Calais. The basilica is an important tourist spot in the city and is known for its dome overlooking the agglomeration and its crypt, which is one of the largest in France.
