City gate
porte de Paris
The Porte de Paris is a vestige of the city of Cambrai in the department of the North. Classified as a historical monument in 1942, it is one of the last memories of the fortifications of the Cambresian city. It was the most difficult entrance to attack for the enemy, which is contrary to the other gate of the city, the Gate Our Lady of Cambrai. Moreover, even Louis XIV entered the city through the Notre Dame gate in order to avoid a probable defeat if he and his army had the idea of returning through the Porte de Paris.
