The Municipal Circus is a cultural building located in Troyes, France. It was renamed Théâtre de Champagne in 1978. The building is located on Gambetta Boulevard in Troyes, in the French department of Aube.
History: It replaced the Troyes circus, built in 1861, which could accommodate a thousand people and was lit with gas, but which was destroyed by fire in 1892. In 1893 the Circus Pleège actually built a new one on the Mail St-Nicolas adjacent to the Beurnonville barracks and welcomed two thousand people, destroyed by a new fire in 1901. The municipality decides to build a stone. The architect Henri Schmit raised the current building on the Preize mail and from 1903 he could host all kinds of events such as boxing matches, Marcel Cerdan came there. It was inaugurated on 18 March 1905. In September 1930 it was modified by architect Denis Tsaropoulos. In 1967, the city transformed the building into a convention palace.
