Church building
basilique Saint-Urbain de Troyes
St. Urbain de Troyes Basilica is a Catholic religious building in the city of Troyes, Champagne, France. In Gothic style, this large church was built in the second half of the 13th century by Pope Urban IV, where his home was located, and was consecrated in 1389.
However, work continued there until the 19th century. A reference monument of the radiant Gothic, the Basilica of St. Urbain is remarkable for the unity of its style, due to the exceptional means that the pope - born of a shoemaker father in Troyes (c.
1195) - implemented for this construction begun in the 1260s. The architecture leaves room for the windows. Due to financial difficulties, its construction ceased and was resumed between the thirteenth and twentieth centuries, where the basilica was finally completed.
