About

The Thau Etang Museum is located in Bouzigues (Herault), on the banks of the Etang de Thau, on the docks of the departmental marina. Inaugurated in 1991, the museum is dedicated to the history of the "people of the pond" and more particularly to the history of oyster culture, which developed in Bouzigues from 1925. The museum presents work tools as well as three boats, including a boat with its sail, typical boat of the pond of Thau.

It includes a section dedicated to the fauna of the pond, thanks to a series of aquariums featuring living species. The City of Bouzigues owns the building and collections, the management being delegated to the community of northern communes of the Thau basin in 2009, then to Sète Agglopole Méditerranée since 2017.
