About

The Great Evolution Gallery (GGE) is one of the galleries of the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). The galleries of the Museum are buildings which in themselves constitute museums (they are labeled "Musée de France") and each specializes in a specific field of natural history. The main gallery of the Evolution is located in the southwest part of the Jardin des Plantes in the 5th arrondissement of Paris, France. Created from the old gallery of Zoology, the Grand Galerie de l'Évolution is an exhibition space renovated in 1994 that focuses on the evolution of species and the diversity of the living world and is based on a contemporary scenography of the MNHN's natural history collections. In a reserved space and a twilight ambiance are presented missing or very threatened species. Another space, more colorful and playful, is specially designed for young children: it is the "children's gallery". Finally, the basement is dedicated to temporary exhibitions.
