About

Parc national des Calanques is a French national park, covering, among others, the calanques of Marseille and the calanques of Cassis, in the department of Bouches-du-Rhône, in the heart of the metropolis of Aix-Marseille-Provence. Created in 2012, it is Europe's first periurban national park, both land and marine. It extends over a coastal massif consisting of limestone cliffs and puddingue, coves and islets that constitute relatively preserved ecosystems for many living species.

The highest peak of the Calanques National Park is Mount Carpiagne (645 m) in the heart of the Saint-Cyr Massif. For more than a century, the site has been frequented by many users in a professional or tourist and sporting setting: fishermen, hunters, walkers, hikers, climbers, divers and, more recently, trailers.
