About

The Amphitheatre of Poitiers, sometimes called the Poitiers Arenas or Gallian Palace of Poitiers, is a Roman amphitheatre built in the 1st or 2nd century in Poitiers (Limonum Pictonum), in the current French department of Vienna. This amphitheater, measuring about 155.80 × 130.50 m, is among the largest in Gaul. Located to the south and away from the ancient city, it is probably built in the first half of the first century.

Disused at the end of ancient times, it was gradually destroyed or absorbed by dwellings. Its remains were classified as historical monuments between 1840 and 1962.
