musée de la Vie romantique
The Museum of Romantic Life is located in the New Athens district of the 9th arrondissement of Paris. It is located at 16 Chaptal Street, in the Scheffer-Renan Hotel, former home of Dutch painter Ary Scheffer and a home of romantic inspiration during the first part of the 19th century. On the ground floor of the pavilion, built in 1830, the museum exhibits the memories of the novelist George Sand, who came to visit the painter next door.
The salons restored his art of living with paintings, drawings, sculptures, furniture, jewels and showcases from his home in Nohant in Berry and bequeathed in 1928 with usufruct to the City of Paris by his granddaughter, Aurora Lauth-Sand. Upstairs, the rooms evoke the memory of Ary Scheffer as his contemporaries - and the philosopher Ernest Renan, who became his nephew by covenant. It is one of the fourteen museums of the City of Paris managed since 1 January 2013 by the public administrative establishment Paris Museums.
