théâtre Comœdia
The Comœdia Theatre is a now-disappeared theatre located 47 boulevard de Clichy in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. Founded in 1899 under the name of Casino de Montmartre, this café-concert sees the beginnings of singers like Maurice Chevalier. Renamed New-Casino in July 1914 following the work of beautification, he specialized in the lyric genre (opéras-buffes, operettes, etc.) from August 1919 under the name New-Lyric but closed a few months later.
He reopened in 1920 as Comœdia. Its director Marcel Nancey, former owner of Moulin-Bleu and Les Deux-Masques, gives vaudevilles and light comedies, with among others Marcel Maupi and Clariy Monthal, who are very successful. Following new works in 1929, the theatre took the name New Comœdia but the taste of the public changed.
Nancey decided to convert the theatre into a cinema in 1933. He retired in 1945. The room, specializing in horror films, closed permanently in 1966.
In his place now stands a post office.
