About

The Arboretum Marcel Kroenlein de Roure is the first and only arboretum of altitude in Europe. It is located in the commune of Roure, (Alpes-Maritimes, France) on fifteen hectares of communal land between 1,280 and 1,700 m above sea level, on the edge of the Parc national du Mercantour. The site has a wide variety of vegetation, including trees from all over the world living on the mountain floor.

High-mountain trees live alongside low-altitude flora. The Arboretum, located in the Adret, benefits from both Mediterranean and Alpine influences. The relief and opening of the site towards the south create a microclimate that allows to introduce more exotic species and gather the trees of the mountains of the world.

There are collections of conifers, joubarbs, maples, junipers and roses. The arboretum Marcel Kroenlein is open to the public and visits all year round. It is labeled "Remarkable Garden".
