The municipal arboretum of Verrières-le-Buisson, with its full name arboretum municipal de Verrières-le-Buisson, Roger de Vilmorin Voluntary Nature Reserve, House of Trees and Birds, has been a voluntary nature reserve (VNR) since 1988 and has not been officially reclassified to a regional nature reserve after the end of the NVR status in 2002. It is a public extension of the Vilmorin arboretum, which belongs to the Vilmorin family. By way of succession the municipal arboretum which extends over an area of 1.5 hectares has long belonged to the family of Arjuzon, before the town hall of Verrières became its owner in 1975. She gave the entire management to an emerging association at the time, the "House of Trees and Birds", composed only of young people aged 14 to 25 who meet every Saturday to maintain the arboretum. The rehabilitation of this arboretum involved several phases:
clearing; the scientific inventory of species present on the site with the assistance of a scientific committee; the promotion of the site to the public with a view to raising environmental awareness. More than two hundred species...
