About

The Gallo-Roman ruins of Champlieu are located on the territory of the commune of Orrouy, in the department of Oise and the region Hauts-de-France, France, about 15 km south of Compiègne. They have been listed as a historical monument in 1846 and have been owned by the General Council of the Oise since 2007. The site is crossed by one of the Brunehaut roads.

Location: The archaeological site of Champlieu is located not in the autumn valley, but on the plateau 2 km north of the present village, in full fields, at an altitude of more than 130 m. It is located 13 km south of Compiègne, 7 km north of Crépy-en-Valois and 22.2 km northeast of Senlis (orthodromic distances). The name is borrowed from a hamlet, located 700 m southwest; A little closer is also the ruin of the Romanesque chapel of the priory of Champlieu, dating back to the 11th century and also classified as a historical monument. The edge of the forest of Compiègne approaches some 300 m from the Gallo-Roman ruins, to the northeast.

The ruins correspond to three distinct settlements, but very close to each other:
