About

The chapel Saint-Nicolas de Vitry-le-François is located in the so-called Bas-Village. The neighbourhood was, already before the foundation of Vitry-le-François, a village of boatmen. This chapel was built in 1637 by the sailors of the Bas-Village. It is decorated with marine anchors inside and outside. The building is wood-panned and covered with beech slats. The patron saint of the chapel is Saint Nicholas, patron saint of the sailors.
