The Aquarium de Paris, formerly called Cinéaqua – and historically Aquarium du Trocadéro – is an aquarium located under the hill of Chaillot between the Trocadéro (precisely in its gardens) and the Seine, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, France. It was built in 1878, making it the first aquarium in the world. Closed in 1985, it was reopened in 2006. The tour circuit extends over 3,500 m2 underground. The aquarium houses 500 animal species of fish and invertebrates, and has approximately 10,000 specimens off-plant. The Polynesian tank has 750 corals. The large basin contains 38 sharks of seven different species in 3 million litres of water. As a result, it is the 2nd largest artificial basin in France, the largest being the Nausicaa aquarium in Boulogne-sur-Mer, with 10 million litres. In total, 5.3 million litres of water are divided into 43 basins and large aquariums, a 160,000-litre basin presents a spectacle with a siren, it is the second largest basin of the aquarium with its 34 cm thick glass and a weight of 24 tons.
