About

The gorges of the Sava are a parade dug by the Sava through a limestone fold of the Pyrenean Piedmont. They are located on the limit of the French communes of Montmaurin and Lespugue, in Haute-Garonne, in the Occitanie region. The site of the gorges of the Sava and their karst relief are of interest both geological, archaeological, ecological, faunistic, floral, as well as touristic.

The area has been inhabited by Man continuously from Paleolithic to today. Among other things, he delivered the famous statuette "Venus de Lespugue" and the remains of the Gallo-Roman villa in Lassalles. The gorges of the Sava are partly covered by a natural area of ecological, faunistic and floral interest (ZNIEFF) of type I and most of the right bank is classified as a historical monument.
