puy de Lemptégy
The Puy de Lemptégy is a volcano in the Puys chain, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, a volcanic area of metropolitan France that is still potentially active (so-called sleeping). It is also, by development, a naturalist museum presenting an open-air volcano interior excavated by a careful exploitation of non-cohesive or non-cohesive materials, the pozzolane, thus highlighting the internal architecture of feeding the eruptive mouths, namely the central volcanic chimneys and a system of lateral dykes. An exhibition and in season, animations, complete the layout. This site, thanks to its unique educational interest in metropolitan France and rare in Western Europe, is frequently visited by school groups and used in field education by university groups.
