temple de Mercure
The temple of Mercure du puy de Dome is a Gallo-Roman place of worship of the second century, built at the top of the puy de Dome (Puy-de-Dôme, region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France). During the first century, the argent city of Auguststonemetum (now Clermont-Ferrand) decided to establish a temple dedicated to Mercury. In the next century, this arkose temple, which was probably too small to accommodate the many pilgrims who went there, was replaced by a larger and more majestic temple, in Trachyta. Excavation campaigns in 1875 and at the beginning of the 20th century revealed the ruins.
