About

The Baron-Gérard Museum of Art and History (MAHB), which benefits from the name Musée de France, is located in Bayeux, Normandy. Since its reopening in March 2013, it has been an essential element of the triptych Bayeux Museum, the brand of museums run by the city of Bayeux, with which the Tapesterie de Bayeux (memory of the world of Unesco) and the memorial museum of the Battle of Normandy are associated. Installed in 1900 in the former Episcopal Palace adjacent to Notre Dame Cathedral.

Since 1951, he has been named Henri Alexandre Gérard (1818-1903), deputy of Bayeux and patron of the museum. In a permanent dialogue between palaces and collections, there are presented 800 archaeological or ethnographic pieces, nearly 600 works of art including 250 paintings and prints (Van der Goes, Cluet, Momper, Teniers, Champaigne, Bourdon, Boucher, David, Gros, Gérard, Boudin, Caillebotte, Van Dongen, etc.), and more than 2,500 porcelains and laces, creations that have ensured the influence of Bayeux throughout the world. It is now possible to access the museum as a virtual tour.
