About

The Old Bishop's Museum is a departmental museum located in the heart of the historic centre of Grenoble. It is dedicated to the history and heritage of Isère. Located in the former Episcopal Palace, of which he takes his name, it was inaugurated on 18 September 1998 after a series of restorations and improvements carried out as part of a vast heritage site around Notre-Dame Square.

Museum of the Old Archbishopric

Started in the early 1990s, this project allowed the clearing and enhancement of the baptistery of Grenoble, the architectural recomposition of the buildings of the episcopal group (the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Saint-Hugues Church and the former palace of bishops) as well as the layout of the museum's garden, whose realization in 2014 symbolically marks the culmination of this programme. In addition, its temporary exhibition rooms allow it to host various exhibitions each year, making the place an important hub of cultural life in Grenoble. One of them, linked to photographer Robert Doisneau, enabled the museum to reach the 100,000 visitors mark in 2013.
