Nausicaá - Centre national de la mer
Nausicaá, the national centre of the sea, is a centre for the discovery of the marine environment, opened in 1991 in Boulogne-sur-Mer. It has the largest aquarium in Europe that ranks fifth in the world hierarchy. It is also the largest European coral breeding centre.
With an average of over 800,000 visitors per year, this is the second most frequented tourist site north of Paris after Asterix Park. The complex consists of three major routes: the historical exhibition "Slopes and Men", the exhibition "Travel on the High Seas" inaugurated in May 2018 with its basin of 10,000 m3 focusing on rebuilding the island of Malpelo ecosystem (which makes it the "greatest aquarium in Europe"), as well as several small permanent and temporary exhibitions. The exhibition "In the eye of the climate", opened in 2020, aims to encourage visitors to act to preserve the oceans.
In 2022, Nausicaá signed a convention with the Agence de l'Environnement et de la Maîtrise de l'Energie (Ademe) whose aim is to raise the visitor's awareness of the need to act on a daily basis for the ocean and its resources. Visitors discover "Great wide...
