Monument
obélisque de Nancy
The obelisk of Nancy, or Carnot monument, is an obelisk located in Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle), on the driveway that separates Carnot Square and Leopold Course (aisle of the Obelisk, to which he gave his name). Inaugurated in 1896, the monument pays tribute to Sadi Carnot, President of the French Republic, who was murdered two years earlier by the anarchist Caserio. Its construction is financed by a public subscription. Its ornaments were removed and melted during the Second World War as part of the mobilization of non-ferrous metals.
