palais des ducs de Savoie
The prefectoral palace of Nice, located in the Old Nice, is currently the seat of the Alpes-Maritimes prefecture and residence of the prefect. Until Nice County joined France in 1860, the building was a royal residence of the kings of Piedmont-Sardaigne. Prior to 1720, it was the palace of the Dukes of Savoie in Nice but there is almost nothing left of the original building given the extensive and profound changes of the palace in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The building has been listed and partially classified as historic monuments since September 3, 1996. Its main entrance is to the south, Place Pierre-Gautier.
