The Old Bridge, formerly known as the Saint-Antoine Bridge, is the only work of art built between the two banks of the Paillon, from the Middle Ages to the early 19th century in the city of Nice. It was located in the current axis of the number 22 boulevard Jean Jaurès / lycée Masséna, and disappeared from the urban landscape during the work of covering the river in the early nineteenth century. In the past, it was common to protect the main entrance of a city under the patronage of a saint: Saint Anthony is known as a protector of contagious diseases such as plague.
