Porte Beucheresse

The Beuchesse gate is a city gate in Laval, Mayenne. It is the only remaining Lavallois gate, as well as one of the best preserved remains of the Laval ramparts. It stands on the edge of Hardy-de-Lévaré Square, in the city centre, and communicates with Rue des Serruriers.

The naive painter Henri Rousseau was born in the right tower in 1844 and lived there during his childhood. His father had a iron factory on the ground floor. On Rue des Serruriers, a niche in a wall of the door houses a Pietà from the end of the 15th century.

This is one of the many religious statuettes in the old centre.
