chapelle du château de Laval
The chapel of the Château de Laval is located in Laval, Mayenne. It is at the origin of the constitution of the collegiate Saint-Tugal de Laval. It is a 12th century Romanesque chapel.
It is often characterized as "underground" because it is under the houses, but the castle being built in height, it remains well above the banks of the Mayenne. For example, it is about ten metres above the Val-de-Mayenne street below. Its plan forms a rectangle of twelve and a half meters by sixteen.
It has three apses opened by windows; Two side windows also existed, but they were blocked when the houses were built on either side of the chapel. The nave is divided into three columns with capitals supporting arches in the middle of the hanger and edges.
