Refuge des Écrins

The Écrins refuge, also known as the Caron refuge or Ernest Caron refuge, is located at an altitude of 3,175 m on the town of Pelvoux, in the Briançonnais, in the heart of the Écrins massif. It overlooks the glacier Blanc (glacier that the hiker runs along during the climb). It offers a panorama especially on the Barre des Écrins (top of the massif).

The guarded refuge, open to the public, is accessible on foot (4h30 of climb) from the meadow of Madame Carle (terminus of the road after the hamlet of Ailefroide) via the refuge of the glacier Blanc. From the refuge you can reach the Barre des Écrins, the Dome de neige des Écrins, the bar Noire, Roche Faurio, the point Louise and the peak of Snow Cordier.
