About

The Schweissdissi – litt. "the type that sweats" in Alsatian – is a monumental iron statue, which is why it was spared by the Nazis during the Second World War. It was designed by Frantz Beer, who is currently at Tivoli Park in Mulhouse.

The Schweissdissi has always been understood as a tribute to the hard work of the proletariat at the beginning of the twentieth century: Mulhouse is then a powerful German industrial city radiating throughout Europe. Yet the Schweissdissi represents a tiller, wiping his forehead, tired of effort.
