Presentation: The church is located in the cemetery of Amareins in the French department of Ain, in the commune of Francheleins. The church of Amareins was quoted in the 11th century. A rural Romanesque chapel, it depended in the 12th century on the Abbey of the Chair-God. It was then called "Ecclesia marengiis", name of burgundy origin, became Marens around 1250, Amaren in 1350, Amarans around 1365, then at the end of 14th century, the present Amarin. It was under the revolution that Abbé Pourcel, the parish priest of Amareins, who did not wish to comply with the new revolutionary regulations and had brought restrictions in his sermons on the principles of Freedom and Equality, was deprived of his duties. He was temporarily replaced by a servant. There was never again a parish priest at Amarins. It was probably during the Revolution that the bells were melted. The current bell weighs 170 kilos. His godmother was Eléonore Chamarande who gave him his first names. The church was restored in 1960 and is now listed as a historic monument since October 14...
