About

The church of Saint Peter is the vestige of a clunisian priory established at the end of the eleventh century, which gave its name to the commune of Saint-Pierre-d'Allevard. The convent buildings were demolished in 1780, but the cult building was preserved from revolutionary destruction. The bell tower, dating from the original Romanesque buildings, belongs to a monumental family of bell towers found in a few other localities in the department.

The parish church underwent major changes from 1929 to 1930 under the impulse of the parish priest Graëff, who profoundly transformed his interior appearance, removing various ancient architectural and pictorial elements. The major restoration of the nave walls undertaken in the first half of 2012 should allow the building to calmly approach its second millennium.
