Saint Sulpice Church is a parish Catholic church located on Rue de l'Eglise in Chars, Val-d'Oise. It was built in a single and long campaign of works and completed between 1145 for the nave and the lower side, and 1210 for the upper part of the choir. The plan is that of the largest churches at the height of Romanesque architecture, and the elevation follows in its main lines the original conception.
At the same time, the choir bears witness to the transition to Gothic architecture, which is manifested on its higher levels, and prefigures the Gothic cathedrals of Picardie. The ambitious elevation on four floors is particularly remarkable and absolutely rare, because only five other French churches exist. The whole interior of the church is of great elegance, although some 16th-century changes are surprising, including three bare piles of the transept cross.
