The Saint-Sepulcre d'Angers is a memorial located in Angers, Maine-et-Loire, France. It is a replica of the rotunda of the Basilica of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, with in its center, the edicle, the tomb of Jesus Christ. A complete replica of the basilica can be found at Mount St. Sepulchre Franciscan Monastery in Washington, D.C., USA. There is also a copy of the tomb in Görlitz, Germany. It is a memorial, not a church since this monument is not consecrated. The congregation of the Servants of the Poor of Angers (founded in 1872 by dom Camille Leduc), located next to this place of memory, now provides maintenance and visit.
History: The construction of a replica of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem is the work of Monsignor Henri Potard. "I have thought of the many faithful who can never go to the Holy Land. This angeline prelate, born in 1866, led seventy-two pilgrimages to Palestine in the harsh conditions of the time (ship, donkeyback, train, political and military uncertainties...).
